For normal and dry skin, clay masks are detoxifiers. They absorb oils and help to prevent or repair breakouts. Clay masks tend to leave a clay residue but they’re easy to remove if you apply a damp washcloth for a bit before removing. This will also prevent some irritation.
Cream masks are cream products meant for normal and dry skin types. They typically have moisturizers that penetrate dry cells for to improve your skin. If you’re looking for a brighter complexion, try an exfoliating mask. These masks remove dead cells and promote the growth of new ones. But beware: these products typically contain glycolic acid and frequent use of these products can dry out your skin. It’s recommended to use these types of products intermittently in your beauty care regimen. Like sheet masks, apply your favorite moisturizer after use.
Gel masks tend to be more gentle to the skin. If your skin is more on the sensitive side, these clear hydrating masks are very soothing to the face. Many have collagen and antioxidants to help plump up and protect those facial skin cells.
Hydrogel is used extensively in the medical field for treating wounds and is known to facilitate healing. Hydrogel is great for hydration. It absorbs well, locks in moisture, and provides long lasting results. These hydrogel masks can be a great addition to your skincare collection, but are a bit pricey.
Peel Off Masks
While these are the most satisfying to apply and remove, peel off masks tend to be less absorbing than clay masks. Do not use these masks often as they strip away a layer of skin along with dirt and can cause sagging from pulling the skin during removal. Tip: avoid using peel off masks after waxing or threading (or a recent sunburn).
Sheet masks are coated in a variety of penetrating ingredients. These are one of the easiest to apply and many can target your specific skin concerns. Consider using your favorite face moisturizer after use.
Thermal (or Self Heating) Masks
The heat from a thermal mask opens your pores, removes dirt and toxins, and boosts blood circulation, leaving your skin feeling fresh and bright. Always remember to apply a cool wet washcloth to close up your pores and tighten up the skin.
